2011 Combined Property Assessment and Taxation Notice

In accordance with the Municipal Government Act, notice is hereby given that the 2011 Combined Property Assessment and Taxation Notices are ready for pick-up to all assesseed persons in the Town of Legal. Due to the Canada Post labour strike, tax notices will be hand delivered the week of June 27, can be picked up at 5021 50 Street or contact the Town Office (780) 961-3773 to make alternate arrangements. Should the dispute be resolved, the notices will be mailed out. The 2011 Assessment Roll is open for inspection at the Town Office from 8:30 am to Noon, 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Should you wish to file a complaint about assessed values, your complaint must be filed by 4:30 pm August 21, 2011 to the Clerk of the Local Assessment Review Board, in person at 5021 50 Street or Box 390 Legal, AB T0G 1L0 along with the required $20.00 fee. It must be filed using the Government of Alberta "Assessment Review Board Complaint Form" available by contacting the Town Office. Prior to submission of a complaint, please contact the Town of Legal Assessor, Dan Kanuka, at (780) 939-3310.

Property owners are reminded that property taxes are due by August 31, 2011 regardless of whether your tax notice has been successfully delivered. Payments received or postmarked after the due date are subject to pentalty.

Ball Diamond & Soccer Field Closures

The Town of Legal will be posting and updating the status of the fields and diamonds by 2:00pm, Monday to Friday.

OPEN: All Soccer Fields, KC Diamond, All School Diamonds, Citadel Park Diamond, RV Diamond

FIRE BAN - Town of Legal

The Town of Legal will be lifting the Fire Ban within the Town of Legal corporate limits effective June 3, 2011. The Legal Fire Department has been directed to keep a watch on all open fire to ensure fire pits comply with the Towns Bylaws. Should you notice any activity that you feel is a safety concern please contact Fire Chief Tracy Roulston at 780 961 2444 or Robert Proulx at 780 940 3092. Should the situation be urgent call 911.

ATTENTION ALL USERS OF THE TOWN OF LEGAL BULK WATER STATION
(located on RR251 south of Legal)
The Town of Legal has switched over from the "Prepaid User Card" system to a "PIN" number system. The prepaid cards are no longer accepted at the Bulk Water Station. You can switch over your prepaid card to the new PIN number system at the Town of Legal Office at 5021 50 Street between the hours of 8:30am & 4:30pm, Monday to Friday. If you are a one-time user, you can still purchase water at the Town Office which operates on a coin system, but in smaller volumes only. For more information please call the office at 780-961-3773.

Please be reminded that quads and ATVs are OFF HIGHWAY VEHICLES. "Highway" includes any public road. Unfortunately some drivers continue to be disrespectful of residents and their property. These offenders are the cause of greater restrictions for all. Residents are reminded that you are encouraged to call the RCMP when you witness illegal situations.
The Town does not pick up grass clippings, branches, or garden waste. There is a compost site located at the Town shop at 5310 – 48 Avenue where these items may be dropped off. Please drop off ONLY biodegradable and organic waste, bags and boxes must be removed.
The RV Park is located south on 43 Street. The regular rates are as follows: Unserviced stalls - $10.00 per night, Powered stalls - $15.00 per night, Power, Water and Sewer stalls - $20.00 per night. Group Camping Area consisting of 8 unserviced stalls - $100.00 per night and a Monthly rate of $450/month including services. Reservations are only accepted for the group camping and montly camping, otherwise campers are encouraged to enjoy this facility on a first come first served basis.
Our pond at the day use park is not suitable for swimming at any time. Parents, please remind your children of these safety concerns. This is very dangerous.
