Cultivate your Community Through the Promotion of the
40 Development Assets

The 40 Development Assets have been identified as essential building blocks that children and teenagers need as a foundation for growing up to become well adjusted, contributing members of society.

Asset #11: Family Boundaries: Family has clear rules and consequences and monitors the young person's whereabouts

- Always ask where your kids are going, with whom and when they'll be home.
- The nex time your child lashes out at you, try responding with love rather than anger, such as, "I'm sorry you're feeling this way right now. I love you, but it's not okay to act this way".
- Learn to be flexible when setting boundaries and to take the long view. Trends come and go and always will.
- Invest in high-quality internet software that can track all activity, including chats, email and web access. Let your teens know you will regularly check on what they are doing online (and then be sure to do it).
- If possible, keep computers in the common areas of your home, not in bedrooms, offices or other rooms where kids can spend long periods of time unsupervised.

MEALS FOR THE MOMENT

This program is designed to provide nutritious meals to those individuals/families during times of need. These times may arise when there is an illness to oneself or someone in the family, where injury or illness takes place preventing you from providing this service to oneself/family, or death in the family.
During these times of need, cooking may become a burden to some, therefore community volunteers from the "Meals for the Moment" program, would be pleased to provide you and/or your family with prepared nutritious meals to help you get through the difficult time.
If this service is something you feel would benefit you or someone you know, please contact Rita Hasson, "Meals for the Moment" Coordinator at 780-961-4117 or the Town Office at 780-961-3773. Please note that if your name is forwarded to us by a concerned community member, we call for your permission to provide the service and that it is provided in the strictest of confidence.
Anyone who enjoys cooking and would like to give back to the community may contact Rita or the Town Office as mentioned above, and we will add you to our contact list for volunteer meal providers.
